CPT (Curricular Practical Training) Internship

CPT is for international students who are still enrolled in a school program.

CPT internship requirements

  1. Students can apply for CPT during the course of school and must be a full-time student with a valid F-1 visa. Undergraduate students must complete 9 months of full-time study before they are eligible to apply for CPT, graduate students can apply for CPT on the first day of school.
  2. The internship must be related to a course that the student has completed (the course is a credit course and a CPT internship form is signed by the course instructor
Note:
  1. If the student has completed all the courses required to obtain a degree, the student is not eligible to apply for CPT work
  2. English training center or ESL students are not eligible to apply for CPT internship

CPT Internship Application Procedure

  1. Submit the latest CV, I-20, passport, visa, I-94 copy to Jumpbole
  2. Sign the "Jumpbole Service Agreement" and submit the deposit
  3. Jumpbole will interview the student, conduct coaching and resume improvement, and help match the student with internship opportunities
  4. Student joins interviews, accepts an offer and submit a service fee to Jumpbole
  5. Get the employment letter, bring the CPT form signed by the mentor and submit it to the school, and update I-20.

Jumpbole Tip: It may take up to 10 work days for CPT to take effect, so try to prepare in advance. CPT work permit must beissued Before the student can start to work, students are not allowed to work outside the CPT time specified in I-20. Part-time CPT allows for not more than 20 work hours weekly off campus; full-time CPT (generally refers to the summer vacation) does not limit work hours, but student must take part-timeClass with credit. In addition, If a student took accumulated CPT for more than 12 months, he/she can not apply for OPT.

OPT (Optional Practical Training) Internship

OPT is for international students who have finished school work. It must be related to the school major. Non-STEM students have 12 months of internship time; STEM students have 36 months of internship time

OPT Internship Requirements

  1. Student has a valid F-1 visa
  2. The internship must be related to student's school major
  3. Student must apply for OPT 3 months before the end of the coursework
  4. Apply for a work permit (EAD card) before applying for OPT. The School's International Affairs Office will provide instructions. It takes about 90 days to get an EAD card

OPT Internship Application Procedure

  1. Submit your latest CV, I-20, passport, visa, I-94 copy to Jumpbole

  4. Jumpbole will interview the student, conduct coaching and resume improvement, and help match the student with internship opportunities
  5. Student joins interviews, accepts an offer and submit a service fee to Jumpbole
  6. Obtain an employment letter and report it to the school.

Jumpbole Tip: After completing all courses and during the thesis or research period, or after graduation, student can work full time (40 hours per week). All OPT internships (except STEM) must be completed within 14 months. Application for OPT must be received by USCIS prior to student's obtaining a degree.
